What’s new in RISKCURVES v13.1
Two updates in this release — a new ignition source modelling workflow for more realistic flammable cloud risk assessments, and extended buried gas pipeline rupture capabilities.
Ignition source modelling
Previously, RISKCURVES assumed that a flammable cloud would always ignite. This is conservative by design, but can overestimate risk in areas where ignition sources are sparse or absent.
Users can now define ignition source locations directly on the map. The software will only predict ignition and the resulting flash fire or explosion when the flammable cloud is modelled to actually reach one of those sources.
Three types of ignition source can be placed on the map:

Reduces unnecessary conservatism in flash fire and explosion frequency calculations.

Buried gas long pipeline modelling
Crater formation modelling for underground pipeline ruptures was introduced in an earlier version for pressurised liquefied gases. In v13.1, this capability is extended to gas long pipeline model, covering a broader range of transmission scenarios.
Relevant for natural gas transmission and gas pipe transport applications (e.g., hydrogen, LPG vapour, CO2, ammonia, etc).
Supports consequence modelling for pipeline operators and transmission infrastructure risk studies.
Relevant for land-use planning assessments near buried gas infrastructure.
This enhancement supports pipeline operators, engineering consultants, and risk analysts working on buried pipeline consequence modelling and infrastructure risk assessments.
