About licences

EFFECTS and RISKCURVES version 11 and higher use the following licensing systems:

Cloud licence

  • Default licencing system.

  • Can be used by connecting to the Cloud Licensing server cloud-license.gexcon.com

  • No set-up costs involved.

  • No need to host an on-premise server holding the licence key received from Gexcon.

  • Gexcon takes care of hosting the licence server, including installing licence entitlement, upgrading the licence manager whenever needed, etc.

  • Requires a permanent internet connection.

Network licences

  • Special license only available upon request.

  • A network licence is stored on a single licence server/PC in your company network.

  • A client PC should be able to connect to this network to use the licence.

  • Utilised with Soft-lock (SL key) or Dongle (HL key).

  • The number of concurrent users associated with a network licence determines how many times a licenced product can be used simultaneously.

Stand-alone licence

  • Special license only available upon request.

  • Software locked to 1 computer.

  • Utilised with Soft-lock (SL key) or Dongle (HL key).

Soft-lock (SL key)

  • Installed on the Network licence server hosted by the customer (physical machine) or user’s laptop.

  • The computer holding the key needs to be a physical machine, not virtual machine.

Dongle (HL key)

  • Available at additional cost.

  • Connected to the Network licence server (physical machine or virtual machine).

  • The computer holding the key can be a physical machine or a virtual machine (using USB hub to connect the dongle to the virtual machine).

Before setting up the licence

  • Install EFFECTS/ RISKCURVES

  • Access licence tools: Dedicated licence tools are installed with the software and can be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Gexcon\LicenseUtils. A shortcut to the “License Configuration Wizard” will be added to the Gexcon programme group.
