Read through the gas release event tree
The diagram below displays an event tree for a gas Loss of Containment situation. Each icon represents a potential consequence. Unlock valuable insights about these different consequences by clicking on the different icons on the event tree below. Happy exploring!
Useful insights
All instantaneous gas releases are always accompanied by a Gas Blast, which is an overpressure effect occurring regardless of ignition or confinement.
Fireball occurs only when instantaneously released gas is directly ignited.
If the flammable cloud first disperses but can ignite later, a Flash Fire might occur.
Every time flammable mass is confined, a Vapour Cloud Explosion (VCE) may occur.
Jet fire needs momentum and, therefore only results from the direct ignition of continuous releases.
