This section describes how to install the FLACS software and license manager.
FLACS download
The latest version of the software is FLACS 24.1 and can be downloaded from the Gexcon website for Linux and Windows. Detailed installation guidance is included in the package in a ‘README‘ file.
Attention
The directory and file names inside the installation directory Gexcon and sub structure must not be changed as this will prohibit FLACS from working as intended.
System requirements
Operating systems: FLACS is available on Linux and Microsoft Windows
Processor architecture: AMD64/Intel 64/x64 (64 bit) are supported. Intel IA64 (Itanium) is not supported.
Internal memory: 2GB or more recommended
Required hard drive capacity: 1.5 GB for the software installation and typically 100 GB for simulation data
Graphics card: a dedicated graphics card with NVIDIA chip set with at least 2GB of memory supporting OpenGL 3.3 or higher is recommended (newer integrated GPUs will also work in many cases but may be limited in their performance and are not officially supported)
The above requirements are recommendations only and will depend on the demands of the specific simulation. Higher processing speeds and increased memory would be preferable for larger computational domains and finer grids. Storing large amounts of simulation data, for example, when using a small plot time step (DTPLOT), increases the requirements for disk space.
Other hardware setups may work in many cases however, limitations may apply. In such cases and for other problems, FLACS support should be contacted.
Installing FLACS on Linux
For a single-user
To install FLACS for a single user, the software can be installed in the user’s home directory.
By default, FLACS will be installed under /home/my_user/Gexcon.
The installation instructions should be followed. Default parameters are recommended.
Save the installation package to a convenient location.
Make sure the file is executable: Type
> chmod u+x /home/my_user/flacs-cfd-24.1-linux-64bit-installer.run
Run the installation program: Type
> /home/my_user/flacs-cfd-24.1-64bit-linux-installer.run
As a super user
Access to the system super user (“root”) is required to install FLACS system-wide. The FLACS installation package should be located in the directory, /path/to/installation.
Follow the instructions given. It is recommended to keep the default parameters.
Change user to super user (“root”): Type
> su
Make sure the file is executable: Type
> chmod u+x /path/to/installation/flacs-cfd-24.1-linux-64bit-installer.run
Run the installation program:
> chmod u+x /path/to/installation/flacs-cfd-24.1-linux-64bit-installer.run
On Windows
To install FLACS on Windows double-click the installation package (flacs-cfd-24.1-windows-64bit-installer.exe) and follow the instructions given. It is recommended to keep the default parameters.
The License manager runtime should be installed for first-time installations.
Uninstalling FLACS
Linux: Run the program /usr/local/Gexcon/uninstall-Gexcon.sh.
Windows: FLACS can be uninstalled using Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs.
Instructions on setting up the FLACS license manager are detailed in the How to set up my FLACS license section.
